Saturn car is an automobile brand and which is a division of General Motors Corporation. Saturn car production was started in January 7, 1985 by the General Motors Corporation. Saturn car is a whole-owned subsidiary of the General Motors Corporation, which manufactures most of its automobiles in the United States. But in actual the Saturn car production was started in the 1990. Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagen are the basic competitors of the Saturn car. Similar to Vauxhall Motors in the United Kingdom, Saturn car is also becoming the US brand for Opel Vehicles.

General Motors Corporation named Saturn after the name of American rocket which have taken American astronauts to the moon in the year of 1960-70. The motto of the Saturn car is “A different king of company, a different kind of car.” But the motto was not constant. The Saturn Corporation had built its own distribution network from scratch. The distributors and retailers of the Saturn car was famous for their no-haggle pricing. Here no-haggle pricing means that the cars were sold at their exact sticker price. Bargain was not allowed here. The Saturn Corporation was started with 99 employees only. The first profitable quarter was announced in 1993.

All the headquarters, retail employee training facility and primary manufacturing facility of Saturn car are located in Spring Hill, Tennessee. After the end of production of the Saturn Ion the Spring Hill manufacturing of Saturn car was ceased. Later on Saturn VUE production was moved to Mexico and where second generation of Saturn VUE is built. Now the plant has been retooled for assembling the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse. Saturn becomes a division of General Motors Corporation in the year of 2006. And on March 30, 2007, the production of Saturn car at the Tennessee facility got ceased. The first vehicle of Saturn without polymer side paneling was the Saturn Relay. It was produced in the year of 2005. This car was built in the Doraville, Georgia production facility. In the same facility other cars were also manufactured such as Chevrolet Venture and Chevrolet Uplander minivans. According to some recent news it was heard that to get out of its financial difficulties General Motors Corporation is thinking to shut down the Saturn brand.

In Saturn car you will find a Z-body and the 1.9 L Saturn I4 engine. These cars have a dent-resistant plastic body panels which also changes the look of the car to a much extent. At present time the company shares GM’s Delta, Epsilon, and Theta automobile platforms. But from last few years Saturn sales is decreasing. And because of this reason the production of the L-Series car was stopped. Overall you can say that the company is not making any profit and it is going in loss. You can find Sky roadster, Aura sedan, Astra hatchback as the company’s present models. Some cars are built outside US and then they are imported in the US as a Saturn brand such as Saturn Astra which is built in Antwerp, Belgium and then it is imported to the United States.

It can said that in next few years this brand is going to decline completely.
