Technology has puzzled us for the last decade, surely no doubt about that. The changes through which the society as a whole has undergone are tremendous, from cellphones until bluetooth. All systems have evolved, and the fear to commoditization has compelled every company to grow and create, everyday, a new feature for their products. For instance, cellphones now come with photo camera, mp3 player, in some cases it has a small keyboard that you can use to browse the internet. You can even send an e-mail using your cellphone! That doesn’t surprises us anymore. We are probably expecting a new advance, something we can not imagine, but we suspect it. There is an air of new stuff coming that even the more technologized person would never dream of. Yet, there is something that startles me. Computer programmers and manufacturers have been working so hard that nowadays losing your data is not a tragedy anymore! Yes, you read it: data recovery can be recovered after being erased or lost due to damages in the place of storage –i.e hard disks, or CDS-. There are several programs and enterprises dedicated to offering that service. You may ask how can that be possible. Well, as for that, there are several techniques, perfectly explained at en.wikipedia.org: “Some damage can be repaired by replacing parts in the hard disk. This alone may make the disk usable, but there may still be logical damage. A specialized disk imaging procedure is used to recover every readable bit from the surface. Once this image is acquired, the image can be analyzed for logical damage and will possibly allow for much of the original filesystem to be reconstructed”. Incredible? Not too much. There are several ways of revoring data, and that we’ll leave them for the second part, in which we will go through specific points regarding data recovery.
