It was because of him; most Indians knew about Formula One sport racing and were tuning the TV sets to watch the Indian. Narain did well qualifying in poll positions and made it to the final race. He made his debut as a Formula One driver with Jordan team in 2005, where he took the 18th place and earned 5 points to Jordan team. Then he was a driver with Williams. The story of Narain became hot with the controversy of Helmet with Tri Colors.

This is the time when the Indian business tycoon Dr. Vijay Mallya entered the fray of Formula One racing with his brand Force India in October 2007. Force India was a result of a sell off by Spyker Formula One in 2007. The car used a Ferrari engine with Indian tricolors on the outer side. This is the first Indian brand in Formula One Racing and the story is continuing with the team participating in major events. The Brand Force India named its car VJM – 01 after the names of the owners. The principal sponsor of Force India is Kingfisher owned by Dr. Mallya and it has its own partnership with Airbus.

Formula one racing still is not a favorite sport among the Indians as Cricket has cemented a strong place in the minds of Indians. Most of the Indians are unaware of this sport and the revenue hidden in the sport. A solution to these discrepancies is to increase the awareness level in the sport. To increase the awareness of people, a grand Formula One Championship is to be conducted in India. This will make the sport popular in India and more exciting. More, India now has become a great market place for entertainment and sports. The youngsters are willing to pay huge amounts for entertainment and there is a huge market opportunity in India for Formula One racing. Considering these aspects, Formula One Management head, Bernie Ecclestone is enthusiastic in conducting a Formula One championship in INDIA and I hope this will come true by the year 2009 or 2010. After this event, India will be a sports superpower excelling in all sports and Formula One racing will become an order of the day as cricket is.
