For anyone who is determined, and willing to commit time and energy, it is completely possible to attain a juris doctorate, or JD, through an online education program. Therefore, if you want to take the bar exam in most of the 50 states, you have to possess a degree from a law school which has the approval of the American Bar Association. The single exception to this rule is in California, because the state does provide provisions for distance learning and correspondence schools. Some people do not want to move to California in order to do this, which is perfectly understandable. There are several other options if you do not think you want to move to California or if you simply want to practice law elsewhere in the country. To begin with, you need to work and be patient. A lot of other states will allow attorneys from California to take the a bar exam in another state after they have a minimum of five years of continued service and experience practicing law.

There is also the possibility of filing an appeal so that you can practice. You can talk to the state authority for admissions where you want to be a lawyer and seek approval to sit for that state’s bar exam. You have to construct a solid case in order to do this. You can also ask your school’s career service center to work up a presentation.

You can also try to become a part of an apprenticeship program. For example, the state of Washington allows lawyers to go through different paths to become an attorney. In those states, working alongside a lawyer who has an authorized license from whichever state, for some span of years, you will be designated as a practicing apprentice.

You can also attend school for a longer period of time, in order to attain your Masters of Law, or LL.M., in addition to your online law degree. As well, you can always attend court. If you pass the bar exam in California, you can then practice in a federal court outside the state.

There are many other things you can do with an online law degree as well. For example, you could go to an online law school simply to expand your knowledge and skill in your current field, or in a different field altogether, such as health care, and human resources.

Most people will agree that an online law degree is just as legitimate and founded as a traditional degree, namely because online law schools model their curriculum after traditional law schools. As well, you are required to pass what is known as the “Baby Bar” after your first academic year in an online law school, which provides significant evidence concerning how well you are doing.
