On the online interior design school, it’s time for fireplaces. There are lots of styles and materials: stone, metal, crystal, wood, ceramic. Good designs and quality gives us reliably.

In the election of our fireplace we have to pay attention not only in the design of the chimney, but also in the design of the space we’re going to place it. The space has to allow a perfect development of the heat and most of all absolute security.

For small spaces, we have for example ‘Vania’ a chimney with a woodshed made by ‘Edilkamin’ an Italian firm. It also has a little kind of table to warm plates.

Chimneys play a double role in the ambient where they are. They have the function of elevate temperature, but on the other side, they play an important role in the decoration.

We have to recreate the more appropriate place taking a look at different styles: classic lines, brand new designs, clean lines, functional fireplaces or maybe rustic chimneys.

Fireplaces with classic styles find their esthetic scent in the past, and they are more elegant with the natural materials. In those classic spaces that kind of fireplaces are much appropriated. But their character out of time allows a lot of decorative combinations.

Rustic chimneys for example mainly made of stone and natural wood can be combined with bricks. Their line is simple and solid and their appearance is heavy. (For example Horseshoe from Stovax firm is classical and rustic, based on a XIX century design).

For traditional houses maybe artistic designs are the best, like sculpted stones, wood or bricks. The contemporary style prefers clear lines without ornaments; they reflex materials like white stone or metal. (Example Michel-Ange from René Brisach)

But before thinking about style and design we have to study a little bit where to place it. Checking the size of the conducts it needs, thinking about the space it needs and the dimensions of the room. If there is enough space an open fireplace is a good solution. If the room is not that big, maybe we can choose a model for the corner or the classical French chimney, plane in the front (example Washington model from Arriaga Artesanos).

One of the experts’ objectives is to find the way to get the maximum efficiency of the heat and to have it in the room as much time as we can.

One system that works perfectly is the fireplace with steel casting in the inside.

Another way to use the heat is to create an air chamber between the house wall and the interior of the fireplace.

Last but not least, we don’t have to forget that the fireplace needs accessories like pliers, small brooms, blowers, firedogs, etc. They are not only practical, they also gives beauty with their designs and materials to the chimney. We also have to think of a place to store firewood and sticks.
