Nursing degree online? Where technology crosses its own boundaries

Would anyone with common sense would ever take a nursing degree online? Is it really possible to go and take one course of the kind when there are so many issues to deal with practically, as regards topics related to the medicine itself and the work of the nurses? I think that courses of nursery online are totally against the nature of the work itself. Aren’t nurses supposed to take care of the ill, give them food, cover them if they have cold, inform the doctors if they see a problem, etcetera? Then, what of these can be made or learned online? In this case, are we entitled to say that the Internet is very useful? Totally not. Again, it is to highlight that much of the work of a nurse involves hours on hospitals, clinics, and getting to know a lot of psychology and personal interaction with people. Can this be learnt online? Or, for instance, first aids: is there a possible way in which you can learn how to behave via the Internet, virtually, without having an interaction with a teacher or a higher qualified doctor that can tell you how things work? I think that here Internet has nothing to do. It may be a beautiful way of saving both time and money, but there are several aspects in which its funcionalities simply don’t work and shouldn’t be applied. Of course, you may discuss and argue against this, by saying that there are lots of courses of nursing degree online in the Internet. Well yes, that’s totally true, and means that our nurses are not having the supposed common sense that they should, as they are supposing that nursing degree online involves the same issues as a presential course, in which you can practice in situ, with other people. The richness of the interaction among peers, between two people talking together, is something that can’t be left behind. Even though this may seem far too romantic, or naïve, we have to consider that there are some jobs or activities that necessarily need these interactions. And we just can’t leave them behind by appointing to courses online that will do anything to us but leave us more vulnerable. So before getting one of these nursing degrees online, think it twice, take into account tha it may be much more worthwhile to spend more time on a traditional course, but take more advantage of the potentialities that human interaction can give. It’s not to be afraid, and it’s not to think that Internet is the most valuable good in the world. There are many other things and means of communication, other opportunities of developing and educating, other ways of, in the end, living your life. For those wanting to be real nurses, an online course is definitely not the way to take. There are plenty other options on the road, and avoiding personal contact is not just the one. A nurse has also lots of responsibilities, and failing in one of them may sometimes result in the loss of the job. Are we to leave our future in the hands of the Internet? Is it fair for the patients to have the formation done via the Internet, virtually? As a matter of ethics and moral values, we are entitled and compelled to do something more for our patients, than sitting in front of a computer, appointing to subjects online.
