What to take into account when thinking about a website design
This article will be directed not only to professionals of the field, that should be more familiar to the experiences of designing websites, but also and with more emphasis, for the amateur, the people interested in design but not having too much experience on this. Many times, they may be discouraged from studying or going on a course for website design just because they think it’s too heavy to bare, or because they were told that it’s impossible to understand, that there are so many codes and programs to learn that it will be a waste of time. Well, none of this is really true. Of course, it is a difficult task to learn the basic programs needed to design a website: Corel, Dreamweaver, Flash, HTML, are only a few of them. Yet this does not mean that everybody will be incapable of applying to this kind of work. Although they are difficult-to-use programs, they usually are offered by several companies or institutes that give courses dedicated fully to the acquainting of knowledge for one design program. On the internet, you may see thousands of them for Dreamweaver, flash and so on.
Yet the most difficult part, in my opinion, does not rely on the learning of the code of programming, that is more mechanic and easy to teach and learn. There are several data that you should get –usually when having experience-, related to colors, contrast, ability to handle percentages of different kinds of colors, etc. that is the point: when choosing a website design for a client that gives one hundred percent freedom to work: what color should you choose? This is something you should think thoroughly, as for instance black may inspire sadness, white may inspire peace, red may inspire passion. You need to relate the color to the content of the website, and with that begin your work, always thinking about possibilities, and capabilities of playing with those elements. Sometimes, you may be asked to make a website in which everything should be more sober, in other cases you might be asked to design a website more cheerfully. That will depend on the customer, yet you have to be prepared for everything. In second place, and as a second important tip, you have to think that website design always points to the people who will enter, as a book points out to the reader. So you need to put in those people’s skin, and think what they may think when seeing what you have designed? Will they be comfortable? Is the website easy to use? Are buttons friendly, are shortcuts easy to find? These are questions that should appear first in your head when thinking thoroughly about the website you are designing. Remember, you are a creator, and as that, you have to adjust yourself to the website asked for by the client.
As for the price you may want to ask for to be paid, remember also that competition is harsh, so you should make some research to see how much professionals are asking for, so that you can ask for something less than that, yet not a misery. This is why the price you put to your work is extremely important: that will be your future reputation. So website design is not and should not be something frightening. Even though it is difficult to handle, and although nothing is easy… well, in general life, things are not easy. So be accustomed, learn what you need to learn and start working. Website design will be on your hands.
