We can say that a website consists of information about a particular topic or subject. The arrangement and creation of web pages is called website design. Website design is a process of planning, designing and execution of media content delivery via internet in the form of technologies. Website design is displayed by the help of web browsers. Website is used for internet communication. It is an essential part of internet. Without website design concept the transfer of data over internet is not possible. Website design is done through the help of markup languages such as HTML. In the earlier period HTML was the basic one but in today’s world there is much software through which website design can be done such as PHP. PHP is new in the market but it has got its popularity.

The basic purpose of website design is to create website through which the user can request any information over the internet or you can say that presents content to the used in the form of web pages once requested. But in the web pages the images or more complex media can be inserted but to display it some other plug-ins are needed such as Flash, Java, etc.

The web pages are classifieds into two parts:

1. Static pages: The static pages never change its content and layout on the user request until somebody manually updates it.

2. Dynamic pages: In dynamic pages the content and appearance of the page changes as user wants and the computing environment runs according to the user. In this by using client side scripting languages the content can be changed in the client side. There are many client side scripting languages which are used for this purpose such as JavaScript, Jscript, Actionscript, media players, etc. And by using the server side scripting languages the dynamic content is compiled on the server side.

The first person who combined Internet communication with hypertext was Tim Berners-Lee. He published his first website in August 1991. These websites were written in a markup language called HTML. The early versions of HTML were very simple they were used to make web site with simple paragraph and heading only. They were used because of their ability to link using hypertext. As the website design progressed, the markup language HTML also become more flexible and complex. Nowadays with the help of HTML many things can be done such as adding of images and tables to a page.

There are many aspects of website. For commercial website the basic aspects of design are:

1. Content: It is the information and substance on the website. It should target the area of the public that the website is concerned with.

2. Usability: With a simple and reliable navigation the site should be always user friendly.

3. Appearance: The website should maintain a consistency throughout the page by using a single style. It should look formal and descent.

4. Visibility: It should be easy to find. It should be listed with major search engines and advertisement media.
