Architecture is a subject which includes designing of constructing structures or other buildings done by a person or a building etc. Architecture is a vast subject is includes various things such as process, documentation, etc. The person who studies this subject or has the profession related to this is called an architect. The basic aim of architect is to provide the shelter. Or in other words we can also say that an architect is a person who is responsible for basic designs of a construction work. In documentation it is the structure and behavior of a particular building or monument which has to be constructed by a medium of drawing on a paper.

The basic architecture work is related to providing shelter needs of the public which can be anything such as colleges, churches, temple, or hospital etc. In architecture work a person has to study various things before starting a project and these things can be mass, space, light, materials, volume, texture, shadow etc.

Other than the design process there can be many other things also which an architect does such as aural, visual, and tactile. In architecture profession an architect have to do planning, designing and oversight of a building’s construction. Before the end of 19th century there was no professionalized architect.

Louis Sullivan was one of the greatest architects from the 19th century who also promoted an overriding concept of architectural design: “Form follows function”. There are many philosophies which have influenced the modern architects and also their approach to building design. These are empiricism, structuralism, poststructuralism, and phenomenology also. And other than these the most important is rationalism. Later on in the late 20th century there was another concept added and this was the consideration of sustainability. For satisfying the modern ethos it was necessary that the constructed building must be environmentally friendly in terms of the production of its materials and also its impact upon the natural and built environment of the surrounding area.

Architecture was started due to human needs and means. Here needs means shelter, security or worship etc. And the means is related to available building materials and attendant skills. As human cultures started developing the architecture become as a craft. In early times the human settlements were mostly rural. Due to urbanization shelter become a most important need for a human. Urbanization such as Huyuk in Anatolia and Mohenjo Daro in Pakistan.

From the classical period a new style of architecture started and it was writing text on the building and monuments. And this was most famous in the religious architecture. Writings of Vitruvius, the Kao Gong Ji of ancient China and Vaastu Shastra of ancient India are some examples.

The Islamic architecture was started from the 7th century CE, but the main aim of Islamic architecture was religious purpose. The Taj Mahal is one of the greatest example of Islamic architecture. Other than this some more examples can be found throughout the Middle East, North Africa, and Spain.

There are many early age monuments which are still standing on its place. These are some great works of architecture from the early times, when there was no study of architecture. People built these monuments with there personal experience only.
